About me
Hi everyone from Marco Obinu!
I’m a geek with a strong passion for a lot of technology stuff, including Azure, SQL Server, and PowerShell.
My Job
I’m currently working for SoftJam S.p.A., as an Advisory Engineer.
Behind the job title, I’m a Cloud Solution Architect, with a particular focus on Azure and SQL. I work with top customers to understand their business needs, give them technological envision, and design solutions to achieve their goals.
Often, I’m also involved in the delivery activity. I’m one who likes to keep his hands in the dough.
In the first part of my almost 20-years long career, I made a little bit of everything, including some really basic development tasks. Now, even if I focused my career on ITPro topics, I like to apply a DevOps approach to my tasks whenever is possible by creating reusable scripts or templates.
Tech community volunteering
After years spent as an attendee, I also became an active volunteer, speaking at tech community events. I started by chance a couple of years ago, as a substitute for a colleague. I enjoyed so much the mood I felt during that event that I never stopped anymore. You can find additional details on the Speaking page.
Whenever possible, I share the content I present via SlideShare and GitHub.
Also, I usually record the sessions I deliver, and you can find some videos on my YouTube channel. They’re mainly in Italian, but I plan to train my English by recording some of the hottest topics in this language also.
In June 2020, Microsoft awarded me as a Most Valuable Professional for Azure, and I couldn’t be happier with that. Now, what for a long time appeared to me as a goal, has turned into a starting point: I desire to spend even more effort in the community, to share knowledge, and to deserve the award for a long time.
Other hobbies
Outside of work and speaker volunteering activity, I’m a DIY- man and maker-wannabe. Full of ideas, a few times to realize them.
I have a strong passion for mechanics, carpentry, woodworking, electronic. I have a lathe, a milling machine, a 3D printer, a lot of other stuff: buying tools make me feels good. But my beloved workshop doesn’t see me so often.
One of the things I need to improve is time management: I need a better balance between the time I spend with my children, my job, community events, and my hobbies. But I’m still quite young, sooner or later I’ll learn more about it.
